This annual tournament is held in mem- ory of the late Wayne Camp- bell of C .olm. Wayne was born September 14, 1937 in Hanna, Alberta, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Od epg Russell (Eileen) Campbell and two brothers, Rex of Claresholm, and Ralph of Calgary. As years past, Wayne along with the rest of the family moved to Claresholm were he met and married Jean Hansen in September 1959. They had three chil- cee JoAnn, Randy and Mich- ael. While living in Claresholm Wayne and his father were employed at L. E. Smith's garage for several years. Wayne's interests grew to- wards fixing older cars which he was very successful. He then later was employed at Watson Industr- ies which was later to be known as Safeway Shelter Systems Ltd. It was. while working at Safeway that he and a group of men decided to do some sort of exercise to get and painting - back in shape, so several baseball teams were estab- lished in and around Clares- holm, It turned out to be a great success and very com- petitive, the league soon after expanded tothe outside dis- trict as well. Wayne was a very avid sports fan and was especially keen on playing fastball. He usally played short stop or left field. Wayne also-had quite a knack for stealing bases. When Wayne passed away in August 1967 his team mates and Safeway Shelter Systems Ltd. put up a trophy for him which has become the annual Wayne Campbell Memorial Trophy. His young- est son Michael now plays for the Claresholm Team and last year they brought the trophy back home for the first time. ait hape Up* FITNESS CENTRE AGE ATHLETIC CLUB Offers.
