Things political will soon be humming in this district. long odds reciprocity is essentially a Western measure and will carry in Alberta by a thumping majority On account of the heavy rain an Tuesday the cutting has been post- poned for a few days, but if the fine weather continues now cutting will be pretty: g nerdl-- this -we k end and next week. While playing with some chil- dren on Sunday little Clyde Clarke ret with a bad accident, -which resulted in -breaking his arm, Dr. Dixon reduced the fracture, and the little tellow is doing as well as can be expected. Messrs Albert and Wm. Mc- Nabb of Grey-County and Wm. McNabb of Desboro, Ont., are at present visitiug fmends in the village. The boys came up on the harvesters excursion and are out for work. T. B. Stanford, the deputy game warden for this district, has receiv- the required license blanks for game shooting: Licenses are now required for shooting prairie chickens and wild geese by others than resident farmers, which will cost 1.50, and for. big game 1. W. J. Quayle, late editor of the Claresholm Review, is spoken of as the successor to the vacant sheriffship caused by the retire- ment of Sheriff Van Wart. W. J. failing to get the plum, the editor of the Stavely Standard comes next. Macleod lost another of its old timers on Wednesday of last week when Mr, B. H: Robertson, popu- larly known as Doc, dropped dead suddenly in his room at the hotel. The diseased was well known in Stavely, beifg at one time with Cooper Simonson in the real estate business, moving back to Macleod a year or so ago. The Rev: J. P. Berry of High River, chairman of the High River Methodist District, made a visit to Stavely on Luesday, and proceeded to Champion and Park- land, meeting the Church Boards in each place, The District Meeting will be held in Cayley on Tuesday next to consider the work of the district, and the Rev. T. C. Bucanan, Superintendent ot Missions, will preside. lS ee, ing a on ee - where they will in foture reside At brother, Mrs, Jas: Metcalf and a from Emsdale, Ont. F..S, Ditto met with a ie and painful accident on Tuesday. Mr, Ditto was walking down his store at the back of the counter the sharp edge of a large pi ce of glass that was protruding out from the side, cutting a severe gash to the bone some two or three inches long, requiring several stitches to close up the wound, A man by the name of Valen- tine Smith, at one time employed by Mr, Wynn, met with a fatal accident at Nanton to-day.. He had just crossed the track, near the station, with a load of lumber when his horses became trighten- ed by a passing train and gave a sudden jerk, pitching decease) out on his head and striking a big rock, knocking his brains out. Fall wheat cutting was started on Monday in this district, and spring grain will crowd right. on. Never before has the outlook been so good for a large crop. The recent rains, while keeping the crops a little later in cutting, has helped in filling out the grain, and will increase the yield consider- ably.. The. help problem is -soly- ing itself nicely, as there are .men arriving on every train, and. they are being picked up rapitly, A terrific hail storm raged from off this district last Tuesday, doing a lot of damage. The storm be- gan at Okotoks, from which place it took an easterly direction, veer- ing ronnd to the westward. For- tunately Stavely escaped the hail but was deluded with rain. Re- ports come in from Granum that hail played havoc with the rops west of that town, takin, in.a strip some four miles wide. Lethbridge and district seemed to be the storm centre, hailstone falling there weighing 34 ounces. An At Home was given at the residence of Mrs, G, R. Sever- son on Wednesday afternoon, under the auspices of the Ladies Aid of the Presbyterian church, of which was very largely attended. During the afternoon Mrs, W. G. Wright sang two or three solos, which were much appreciated ; Mrs. J. L. Walton gave, a selec- tion on the violin, and-Mrs. Brand and.Mrs. Fred S. Ditto selections on the piano. Great interest is being manifested by the ladies in connection with church matters. Altogether.a very pleasant time was spent by the large company present. .
