R. Sterling, Supervisor of Soil Conservation and Weed Control, Al- berta Department of Agriculture, reports that considerable crop dam- age occurred last year from the use of 2, 4D on Oats. Growth of the crop was retarded, the yield reduc ed, and plants that were damaged tended to lodge. Underdevelopment of the root system was noted when plants were pulled from the ground Small rootlets often appeared on the straw of sprayed plants at und level or from the first node above the ground. It has been proved definitely, says Mr. Sterling, that oats are the most susceptible. of cereal crops to 2,4-D . They almost approach the susceptibility of flax in this respect. Research men have shown, however that oats can be safely sprayed pro- vided they are sprayed at the right Stage of growth. At the fifth annual Weed Control conference held in Vancouver last year, the Herbicide The oat crop is more sensitive to 2,4-D than wheat or meee en pecially wEenl 6 in 12 mn jepending upon the extent of weed infestation, treatment should be made eithe before or after this period. Inspection of Crops for Registration Attention of farmers and seed growers who wish to have crops in- spected in the field for registration or certification is drawn to the fact that these applications should be submitted prior to July Ist, to the Plant Products ,Division, Immigra- tion Building, Calgary. Proper application forms will be supplied immediately on request to the above address. In order that crop inspection work can be done efficiently, it is necessary to know committee reported on this problem at an early date what crops require as follows: inspection. 5 wos LEGION HALL FAIRVIEW md Friday, Jume 27 9:00 O clock With prizes HINES CREEK BAND Ladies: come in cotton dress, Gents in work shirt best, - Circle 8 and cut Auspices FAIRVIEW LIBERAL LADIES ASSOCIATION 3c) oft GaLoreti BS the Company July 1st, 1952, and June 30th, COMPANY As required by The Income Tax Act, this will advise our customers that it is our intention to make a payment proportion to patronage in respect of the year ending tke 30th day of June, 1953, and we hereby hold forth the prospect of patronage payment accordingly.
