The work being done by these companies is by far the most intensive in Alberta s history. Over 4,000,000 acres have been filed on, and at least 5,000,000 will be spent this year. The purpose of these companies is to explore every section of Alberta with any reasonable expectation of oil and gas production. comonrton VERMILION eo LLOVDMINSTER WAINWRIGHT eu Syndicote wes Olmperrol Shel Stolberg w*1 ride Brozeeu N*-1 Mortin NY entp oren 2 SUMPING ROUND: Nene wormoh 7 RO che enw tome N*e// s Oo . The map shown above accompanied the newspaper article referred to, and the shaded or cross-hatched areas indicate where this exploration is being carried out. It will be noted, however, that no one has considered it ad- visable to do geological exploration in the vicinity of Red Deer, Lacombe, or of the proposed transmission line of the Northwestern Utilities, Limited. Even if a gas field were discovered close to any of the Towns or Cities on the proposed line, the experience of other Towns and Cities in Alberta makes it evident that such a gas-field does not mean lower rates. A separ- ate field would mean increased investment to develop, and increased an- nual operating expenses not necessary when gas is taken from the large field now producing gas for Edmonton and other Towns. The proposed pipe line to Red Deer will, it should be noted, serve five Towns or Cities and a number of large consumers not within the limits of these Towns and Cities.
