M Clarys KOOTENAY RANGE The Days Are Shortening Now that the fall is about here, it might look to your electric lamps and renew the blackened ones with bright, new tungstens. Remember, old limps consume more current per candle power than new ones do. Remember, too, that now the hours of daylight are fewer, and decreasing every day, there probably will be an increase in your cousumption ; therefore, if there should be a slight increase in your lighting account, don t blame it on the meter. + : Western General EleciricCo. Qaetz ave North, Red Deer. a , TRECEPTION AT SCHOOL The students of the High School held a pleasant at home and recep tion in the Assembly Hall last Thurs day, the guests of honor being Pte L. Nurcombe, who has lately returned from the front, Roy Quigg, who ts joining the R.F.C., Roland Michener and Cash Mahaffy, who are both at tending the University of Alberta, and Linton Gaetz and R, Jonason, who are leaving to teach school, (Dick ex- plained that he was not guilty of the desire to teach school, but that, some one had libelled him). Among those present outside of the pupils and teachers were Mr. and Mrs, Michener, Judge and Mrs. Mahaffy,-Mr, and Mre Nurcombe, Mr. F. 8. Simpson. Prin cipal Lock , Mr. Michener, atid Thidire Mahaffy in brief addresses spoke of the gallant way in which Pte, Nur- combe had done his duty and how glad, all were to see him on the toad to health again. Principal Locke, while glad to see his star pupils leav-, ing him, thought t would never quite seem the same at the school again President Gertie Smith, who ably superintended affairs, also called on each of the retiring pupils in turn to address the gathering, and they did go ino very agresablc mannet. The rest of the evening quickly in dancing and playing games Refreshments were served at J0.30 and everyone had a right good ie, passod o - PRESBYTERIAN ANNI- VERSARY SERVICES , The way the people entered into the spirit of public worship was one reas- on why the anniversary services in Knox Church Jast Sunday were 80 helpful to all who were present. The presence and messages of the Rev. A. C. Wishart, of Calgary, together with the leadership of a splendid choir ad ded greatly to the interest and inspir- ation of the day., The:generous gifts and the splendid, cooking of the wo- men.of the Church made it possible to serve a supper that was worthy of the high standard of former years, and the crowd of citizens who-turned Only Progressive Merchants: 7 More and more people are coming to regulate their shopping by the store ads. More and more p ople are getting out of the habit of going to ' the nearest place,' or to the place they have usually visited for certain purchases. More and more do people understand and believe that when YOU HAVE A BARGAIN TO OFFER YOU WILL ADVERTISE IT ADEQUATELY-*and that when you do not advertise it at all it is because you have not, at that time, anything to advertise. More and more are people coming to decide things from reading the ads.---and depend upon the news and facts contained in the ads. for guidance in planning purchases. More and more are people coming to understand that only ENTERPRISING merchants advertise adequately and in- formingly---and---more and more---the people are coming to realize that only enterprising merchants deserve and should receive support ; that patronage otherwi stowed is likely to encourage NON-PROGRESSIV S lin merchants. More and more people are coming to discriminate against stores that do not advertise ENTERPRISINGLY, per- sistently, aggressively; for they realize that such stores are not up-to-date, and not the sort that will keep Red Deer in the van of live places, of awake communities. More the coming months than ever before will your ad- vertising be the test by which all else shall stand or fall-so plan it LIBERALLY, plan it on winning lines. THE ADVOCATE can co-operate with you to the fullest in realizing the possibilities of adv ertising only if you take the coinpletest advantage of it as a means of influencing the people'in your store. An Efficient Executor Losses are often caused in an Estate through the carelessness or mismanagement of the individual Executor or Adininistrator. Thig can be avoided by appointing this Company. It acts on the advice of counsel bonded to carry out the instructions of the testator, and has experienced Officers in charge of all its de- partmenis. The Trusts Guarantee Co., Ltd.
