Locals learning to scuba dive BY ROSE SAUNDERS Local Press Writer Eight local individuals have spent the. last. five evenings scuba diving at the Claresholm swimming pool. No there s not much to see at the bottom of the pool, other than a lot of tile, but once the six evening course is completed those people will be certified in scuba diving. This means they'll be able to .scuba. dive anywhere, because just anybody can't go and rent scuba gear. The course, given by Anderson Aquatics, a divi- sion of Awesome Adventures Inc., out of Lethbridge, teach- es the basics in scuba diving. Some of those basics include equipment, direct and indirect: effects of pressure, dive calculations and plan- ning, rescue techniques and how to dive at altitude, says Marni Anderson, owner and instructor. That includes being able to swim eight lengths of the pool non Stop, treading water for 15 Claresholm led 3-2 at the end of the first period after Blaine Keller scored three goals for his team, assisted by Randy Keller. and Blain McLeod. About 14 people in total took part in scuba experience, a chance to see what scuba diving is all about, in just one evening. Anderson has nothing but good things to say about the staff at the Claresholm pool. The staff at the pool have been great, says Anderson. It s them who help make (the course) happen. The eight individuals who will take their final exam tomorrow (Dec. 21) are plan- ning a weekend trip to the west coast in February to complete five open water dives.
