Translation of Mikroskopische Untersuchungen ber die Uebereinstimmung in der Struktur und dem Wachsthum der Thiere und Pflanzen. Remark regarding Mackie Family History of Neuroscience Collection copy: The enunciation and proof of the cell theory, suggested to Schwann by Schleiden, based on the latters's microscopic researches on plants. Although Schwann clearly described and illustrated the "Schwann cell" he was not able to prove that the cell theory applied to the nervous system. This uncertainty was finally resolved by von Waldeyer's annunciation of the Neuron Doctrine in 1891.
