Brodie's observations on a variety of subjects having to do with mental and brain function. He rejected the theories of the phrenologists. He felt that the brain and spinal cord were responsible for thought, and that animals have souls analogous to those of men. There are sections on dreams, sleep and "moral insanity." The essays are in dialogue form. Includes preface to the Thrid London Edition.
