Slaughtered Polar Bear
File consists of two unfinished drawings, one on each side of the paper, studies of a slaughtered polar bear (Ursus Maritimus). One side also contains a quick sketch of the posterior leg of either a dog or a wolf. This was sketched in July, 1819 as documented in Sonia S. Bershad, 'The Drawings and Watercolours by Rear-Admiral Frederick William Beechey, F.R.S., P.R.G.S. (1796-1856),' Arctic 33.1 (March 1980): [reprint] 144-145, plates 17 and 18, with the account in Parry, 1821, p. 13; Fisher, 1821, p. 44-47, and Sabine, 1821, p. cLxxiii-cLxxxiv (see Bershad's bibliography).
