Photograph of painting. Born in England, Mr. Nimmons came to Canada in 1863 and first settled at Guelph where he bought a wool factory. In 1869 he worked with a survey party and was imprisoned by Riel at Winnipeg. He came West in 1871 and homesteaded at Little Stoney Mountain where he developed a stone quarry. In 1882 he brought land in Calgary from Hudson's Bay Company and operated the 3 D Bar Ranch between the present 17th Avenue and 14th Street, SW, 26th Avenue and 22nd Street, SW. Mr. Nimmons owned the sandstone quarry on 17th Avenue which was managed by William Oliver.
