The bewhiskered gentleman in the stetson is 'Billy' Jones, a Canadian Pacific Railway surveyor. He worked with William Pearce in the early surveys of western Canada. He and his brother Arthur, who was a stockman on the Indian Reserve from 1890's to the 1920's, had originally homesteaded on the 'pile of bones', later the site of Regina. They could not make a 'go' of farming and gave up the land, too soon of course. Billy was a bachelor.
