Nodosauridae fossil
Nodosauridae was an ankylosaur from the thyreophoran family, classified as an ornithischian. Ankylosaurs are shield-bearing dinosaurs known for their dermal amour built of bony plates embedded under the skin called osteoderms that run along their neck, back and tail. Nodosauridae lived in the Jurassic to late Cretaceous periods and achieved global distribution. Image A-1 shows the long, narrow snout used for selective feeding and large shoulder spikes that were used as a head-first defence mechanism.
