Geists and Dolls from Archives and Special Collections
Geists and Dolls from Archives and Special Collections is an exploration of materials and literature related to dolls and the supernatural. Visit the Glenbow Western Research Centre to view photos from digital collections and physical materials from the Glenbow Library and Archives, the Bob Gibson Collection of Speculative Fiction, and the Marvin Orbach Collection of Contemporary Canadian Poetry. Highlights include compilations with chilling doll stories, including M.R. James A Warning to the Curious and Other Ghost Stories (1925), The Collected Ghost Stories of M. R. James (1931), and What Did Miss Darrington See?: an Anthology of Feminist Supernatural Fiction, containing Vernon Lee's 1927 story, "The Doll". Additional highlights include photos of the Calgary Doll Hospital from the Glenbow Archives, paper dolls from the Girl Guides of Canada - Calgary Area fonds, and books on doll collecting and repair.
The display is available to view until November 10th in the Glenbow Western Research Centre (GWRC). No appointment is necessary to view the display.
